Celtic Player Ratings vs Aberdeen

By Scott McPike

Joe Hart – 8

Had a very busy day but he was absolutely doing everything to ensure his last Celtic game would be a cup final, superb performance apart from the questionable shootout call.

Alistair Johnston – 8

Tried to get forward at every opportunity, was able to handle Duk fairly well all afternoon and provided an excellent assist for O’Riley. Really kicked on in recent weeks.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 7

Should have done better for Miovski’s early goal but showed his usual solidity as the game went on, made a huge block to deny Aberdeen in the final moments.

Liam Scales – 5

Drafted back in to replace Nawrocki, didn’t have a great first half at all with a few lapses in concentration. Better in the second half but didn’t do enough to convince again.

Greg Taylor – 6

Not involved much in the first half with most of the attacks going down the right side, solid enough performance defensively but fairly quiet in terms of attacking output.

Callum McGregor – 6

The captain returned to the lineup, looked understandably leggy and was getting pressed by a very tenacious Aberdeen midfield. Lasted an hour before being replaced by Iwata.

Matt O’Riley – 7

Not great in the first half and was trying to get more involved in the second period with no results, scored a huge goal in extra-time where he improved and tucked away his penalty.

Reo Hatate – 6

Very positive in the early stages but drifted out the game as it went on, was another who was struggling against Aberdeen’s busy press and replaced by Bernardo after getting leggy.

Yang Hyun-jun – 4

The South Korean’s inclusion in the lineup puzzled many but the fact he came out for the second half puzzled even more, not physical enough for this sort of environment.

Nicolas Kuhn – 7

Was busy in the first half, scoring a rebound and battling hard to overcome what looked a bad injury to his nose. Has formed a really good link on the right side with Johnston.

Kyogo Furuhashi – 7

Does very well to press MacKenzie for the equaliser, mostly starved of any decent service all afternoon before being replaced by Idah on the 70 minute mark.

Subs

Tomoki Iwata – 4

Replaced McGregor on the hour mark and would have considered himself unlucky not to start but brought a much needed calmness on the ball, scored a very composed penalty.

James Forrest – 5

The veteran winger just loves these types of moments, replaced the ineffective Yang and scores a lovely finish. Deserves credit for his part in O’Riley’s goal as well.

Adam Idah – 4

A menace since he came on, his movement is very good and unlucky not to have another goal to add to his impressive tally. Put his penalty away comfortably.

Luis Palma – 3

Replaced Kuhn and brought a different energy, gave the ball away to allow Aberdeen to draw level. Picked up and scored his penalty but has to do better defensively.

Paulo Bernardo – 4

Came on for Hatate and was always eager to get in to help prevent any Aberdeen threat, another who put his penalty away well.

Maik Nawrocki – 2

Came on for Forrest in the final moments of extra-time but unable to make any impact in his time on the park.
