Rangers Player Ratings vs Celtic

By Scott McPike

Jack Butland – 7

Made some big saves in the first half to prevent Celtic from going out of sight, couldn’t do anything to prevent any of the three goals but again shows his importance to the side.

James Tavernier – 6

Caught out within 30 seconds by allowing Maeda, had a fairly horrific first half on both ends but comes up again with an excellent penalty to get Rangers back into the game.

Connor Goldson – 5

Not his best day at the office, missed a huge chance with a header from a corner. Gives away a penalty with a high elbow, also doesn’t cover himself in glory for the third goal.

John Souttar – 6

Was having a very solid game up until Celtic’s third goal where he is caught ball watching and allows Idah to create space, got a bad head knock in the game and does well to recover.

Dujon Sterling – 7

Put in a very hard working performance and one of the very few Rangers players who was able to keep the ball well, at fault for Celtic’s third goal where he lets Idah get a shot away.

John Lundstram – 6

Celtic’s midfield setup in the first half did not play to his strengths and he was unable to stake a claim in the game. Wasn’t one of his best games of the season.

Mohamed Diomande – 7

Sloppy at times in the first half in possession but really improved in the second half, was breaking up play a lot better and one of the only Rangers starters with pass marks.

Tom Lawrence – 5

Started ahead of Cantwell which made sense on paper but the Welshman just had a complete off day, commits a late foul in the build up of Dessers disallowed goal.

Scott Wright – 4

Similar story here, gets another chance and doesn’t take it. Has to be his last because he really doesn’t have the talent that Rangers need in these type of games.

Fabio Silva – 5

Wins the penalty but his behaviour during the game really let him down, going to ground far too easy and really showed next to nothing from an attacking sense.

Cyriel Dessers – 6

Unable to offer much of an attacking threat but did try hard to press the defence, wasn’t given much service in fairness but unlucky to have a goal disallowed for an earlier foul.

Subs

Abdallah Sima – 5

Replaces Wright at half-time and made such a big difference, his pace threatened Celtic and draws Rangers level with a deflected effort.

Todd Cantwell – 4

Replaced Lawrence with 20 minutes to go and tried his best to make things happen, not much came off but was eager to get involved.

Rabbi Matondo – 4

Came for Silva and his contribution looked poor until he comes up with an excellent finish late on to make it 3-3.

Kieran Dowell – 4

Made his first appearance in a few months and his ability to find a pass was putting pressure on the Celtic backline.

Leon Balogun – 2

Comes on late in stoppage time to replace Goldson but didn’t have any time to make any contribution.
